هي عبارة عن كنيسة مبنية بالطوب اللبن . والقباب ومبانيها متهالكة ، وفي عام 1979صدر تقرير من الادارة الهندسية بمديرية الاسكان بسوهاج يفيد بأن الكنيسة بها شروخ متفرقة في جميع انحاء المبنى بدون إستثناء ووجودها يسبب خطر علي المصلين ويقتضي اتخاذ إجراءات الهدم الفوري وكان ذلك في عهد المتنيح نيافة الانبا انطونيوس مطران سوهاج وبعد سيامتي اسقفا عام 1986 تقدمت بعدة طلبات للسادة المسئولين التمس منهم سرعة التدخل ولكن دون جدوي وفي عام 2004 تمت معاينة اخري للكنيسة وافادت بأن هذه الشروخ مستمرة وآخذه في الإتساع والمبنى بوصفه الحالي يشكل خطورة علي المصلين ومعرض للإنهيار في أية لحظة.

ولكن لم ينظر الينا احد رغم شدة الحاحنا وتعطيل الامور بالتعقيدات المكتبية مثل الرسومات وعقد الملكية وخلافه ، وتكرر ذلك في عام 2006 وتمت معاينة من الادارة الهندسية من مركز المراغة تفيد بأن الكنيسة مهددة بالخطر ولكن دون جدوي رغم شكوانا الكثيرة والحاحنا الشديد وآلامنا علي ما يحدث ومنذ ثلاثة اشهر تمت معاينة بعد الحاح مني من السيد ضابط امن الدولة بسوهاج وذُهل من منظر الكنيسة ، وطلب مني تقديم رسومات هندسية لرفعها للمسئولين بالقاهرة وحدث يوم الجمعة الموافق 16-1-2009 انهيار حائط ناحية الجزء الخاص بالسيدات وذلك في عدم وجود احد بالكنيسة مما جعل المسئولين يهتمون بالأمر ، فاستدعوا راعي الكنيسة واعلموه بانه تمت الموافقة علي اعادة بناء الكنيسة فعليك هدم الكنيسة واقامة الصلاة خارج الكنيسة والبدء في اعمال الهدم ، وبعد الانتهاء من اعمال الهدم ستقوم بالبناء وفعلاً تم هدم الكنيسة والصلاة خارج الكنيسة والبدء في اعمال الحفر وعند الانتهاء من اعمال الحفر اعلمنا المسئولين باننا انهينا اعمال الحفر.

وفوجئنا بانهم استدعوا الاب الكاهن واخذوا اقرار كتابي عليه بأعمال الحفر دون البناء لحين استصدار الترخيص اللازم من القاهرة واني اعلمتهم بانه لا يصح ان نترك الحفر دون ان نبدأ بالبناء لان التربة غير صالحة وبالأمس الخميس الموافق 19فبراير وبعد ان تعرضت التربة للشمس انهارت عدد اربعة منازل مجاورة للكنيسة نتيجة مبانيها القديمة بالطوب اللبن وكشف اساساتها وعدم اعطاءنا تصريح بالمباني كما وعدونا ، كما منعونا من عمل أي صلبات او دعائم لمنع حدوث مثل هذه الانهيارات مما ادي لوقوع الحادث ، وذلك في وجود بعض من الشباب داخل الحفر مما ادي الي موت 8 اشخاص واربعة مصابين من اولادنا الشباب وانتقلت فور سماعي خبر انهيار المنازل الي موقع الحادث لأكون وسط اولادي، وتمنيت ان اكون انا فداء عنهم وقد قمت بالصلاة امس علي سبعة شباب واليوم قمت بالصلاة علي شاب كان مفقودا تحت الانقاض ولم نستطع اخراج جثمانه بالامس . ولم اكن اتصور كم المشاعر التي عشتها مع اهل القرية وهم يودعون خيرة ابنائهم وذلك للتعنت في سرعة استخراج التراخيص والوعود التي بناءاً عليها قمنا بهدم الكنيسة واعمال الحفر ونحن نناشد المسئولين بالنظر الينا وسرعة استخراج التراخيص حتي لا تحدث كارثة اكبر راجين صلواتكم ودعواتكم عنا ومن اجل اخواتكم واسرهم الحزانى المتألمين.

A Statement by H.G. Bishop Pakhom

Bishop of the Chair of Suhag, Mansha and Maragha

Concerning St. Mary’s Church in the Village of Sheikh Youssef

In the Town of Maragha

This church was built of bricks and the building was in bad shape. In 1979 a report was issued from the housing office in Suhag stating that the church had cracks in all parts of the building without exception and that posed danger for the worshippers. Demolishing of the building was imminent. That was at the time of the late Bishop Antonious of Suhag.

When I was ordained a General Bishop in 1986, I applied several times to the officials of the province to no avail, asking them to make a decision concerning that building. Finally in 2004, the church was inspected and the cracks were extending and the building as it was posed a great danger to the worshippers and may collapse any moment.

Again the officials of the province ignored us and decisions were entangled concerning the drawings and the ownership of the church and other red tape. Again the church was inspected in 2006 by the housing office in Suhag. The State security officer was horrified at the state of the church and asked for the engineering drawers of the church to be sent to the officials in Cairo.

However, on Friday, January 16, 2009, the right wall of the church tumbled down and luckily no one was in the church at that time. The officials of the province called the priest of the church and informed him that it was agreed to rebuild this church and he should conduct the prayers somewhere else and he must demolish the church right away. The new building will start as soon as the demolishing is completed.

The church was then completely demolished and the digging for the new building was also completed. We were then surprised that the officials called the priest of the church and took from him a written assurance not to start the building process until the officials in the province get the O.K. from Cairo !

On Thursday, February 19, 2009, four houses adjacent to the church collapsed. That was due to the fact that the officials prevented us from making any re-enforcement to the foundations of the four buildings after the digging for the new building.

A terrible accident has happened. The four buildings collapsed over a number of young men who were inside the dug foundation of the new building. Eight were killed and four injured, I wished it was me who died and not them.

A funeral service was conducted for 7 of the dead and the following day for the eighth person after digging his body from the rubble. It was a very moving feeling to say farewell to eight of the best young men in the village. This death would not have happened had the officials not been awkward in giving us the building permits and had they not reneged on their promises.

We ask the officials to be more candid with us and give us the building permits we need. We ask for your prayers and supplications for the sake of our brethren and their anguished families in the village. These are the names of the eight departed young men:
